NEW RELEASES FROM THE 100 SERIES OF WOR AIRCHECKS 1974 -1977

More from a nearly complete run of the last few years of original WOR broadcasts.  These represent the next 6 reels from a set of 70 reels.  More will follow in the coming months and years.  Sound quality ranges from only adequate on a few to pretty darn good - the masters are third generation AM airchecks, which is as close as I could find to the original tapes.  These are complete shows with commercials.

Regular $6 per-tape prices apply, or Take Any Twelve for Only $55! That's right - make your own damn sets from the 100 series!  You may combine these only with the 100 series A - D sets previously listed.  This offer likely to be withdrawn at any time, so act before the end of the millennium.  You may also select the groupings as offered.  All 100 Series sets shipped in bookshelf cases at no additional charge.  Regular clear soft-poly boxes available on request.

HERE ARE TWO NEW SETS OF LIMELIGHT SHOWS!

Most are FM Airchecks, until 9/17/66, when the broadcasts were on AM only.  These shows, and the releases to follow from 1963 to 1966 are from an amazing cache of WOR airchecks I found right here in Queens!  Sound quality is generally excellent, with occasional problems caused by the age of the master tapes.  Some tape edge curling has caused a bit of fading in and out in spots, which I have tried to note.  There are very rare occurrences of very small segments missing due to broken splices.  As with all airchecks, portions of the opening or closing themes may be missing, but cause no loss of the program portion, except as noted.  Finally, due to single motor technology of old tape recorders, programs may occasionally drift off-speed, although I have done my best to correct that.  Overall these problems are very minor, but I felt the need to point out the variety of  defects that are possible on a few of these tapes.  As usual, I guarantee your satisfaction!

JEAN SHEPHERD 1960 SET 2  - 12 tapes, 18 hours - Dolby B for $60 pp.

These are from the same source as the first 1960 set. The sound is generally excellent, except as noted.  I have had special 100 minute tapes custom-loaded, so there isn't nearly as much overlapping of shows as in the first set, except where the shows are so closely linked as to make it acceptable.  One note: Shep seemed to have some recurring set pieces in his repertoire in this era: Og and Charlie made frequent appearances demonstrating the timeless nature of  human traits.  "Listen Baby" is my designation for the lengthy monologs over mellow jazz of Shepherd talking to an unheard girlfriend.

JEAN SHEPHERD 1961 & 1963 SET - Recorded in Dolby B - 17 ˝ hours on eleven 90-minute tapes and one 60" for $60 pp.

The following tapes are from three sources, but all are high quality FM airchecks, with very minor defects common to tapes of this age.  Portions of the music at the top and end of show may be missing (more serious cuts or major defects are noted).  Some shows may have some hum or hiss, but this is minimal.  Overall, these sound like they could be coming from your radio right now!  About the dates:  I'm using the dates provided by my sources, unless I have serious doubts.  There was some question about shows from the winter of ‘63 and ‘64, but now, through deductive reasoning and just plain guesswork,  I believe they are in proper order.  Should you hear anything in the programs to help narrow down the actual dates, or that contradicts my dates, please let me know! More good news: The source of the 1961 shows has more from 1961, and possibly earlier shows (I've got my fingers crossed), and more 1963 shows from my major source will be listed shortly along with some 1964 and 1965 shows.  Still looking for a source for 1962, but the way things are going, we'll find some someday, no doubt!  Update: January 2000 - I now believe that the shows formerly listed as July 1 to 3, 1963 are actually from 1964.  Oh well.
